Ultra Duck Hunt
The amount of NES games also featured on the PC was quite large in the day; Shadowgate and Shadowgate, Mega Man and Mega Man IV, etc. For the most part, the PC games tended to be inferior over the NES games. As the years went by, the style of PC gaming has vastly changed from 2D shoot em ups (off my site) to 3D shooters such as Quake and Doom.
I had never really considered dedicating a part of my site comparing all of the NES/PC ports; it would take too much time. However, a few days ago I recieved an email from a dedicated NES fan, Joshua Conklin. I had never heard of him until this time. At the point of reading/replying to the email, I don't realize that I was talking to the programmer of the game. I briefly looked over the Ultra Duck Hunt site. After viewing the pictures of Ultra Duck Hunt, I decide that I'll have to give Ultra Duck Hunt a spin. First, I replied to Washer AKA Josh Conklin telling him that I was just about ready to try the game...
Ultra Duck Hunt, wow. A nostalgic feeling does come over me while playing this game, even though the graphics are improved. Unlike the original Duck Hunt, the ducks are not automatic. You can choose to launch one duck, two ducks, or hover which sends a duck flying across the bottom of the screen. Even though the ducks are predictable, the game is not as easy as one might think.
Ultra Duck Hunt supposedly has sound effects, I cannot comment on these since my PC's sound is dead :( It also gripes me that the screens to the right might be miscolored slightly, another fault of my PC.
Overall, I like it! I hope Josh someday adds the dog to Ultra Duck Hunt, who could ever forget the dog? Although there are some minor changes, Ultra Duck Hunt is definitely worth trying out. Small file size makes it even better. Keep up the good work Josh.
