Qix --- Taito
Several times in my years of NES collecting, I have mistaken one game's rarity for anothers which, in the end, results in me buying a few games I wouldn't normally buy. When I bought Qix, I was certain that it was rated A on Etler's rarity list; I was right.
I started playing Qix over a five minute time frame, I just couldn't figure the game out. After I came back to Qix the game just suddenly worked itself out. You control this little circle thing who's object is to fill in part of the playing field with a colored patern, by forming lines across the field. There is a spiral line moving around the screen--he is the Qix. If the Qix touches you (or your line) before it gets connected, you lose a life and will get another shot at the stage. Difficulty progresses as the stages advance.
Qix has some fantastic background music. I personally love the title's music, as well as a few of the other soundtracks. According to some people who have played the Arcade versions of Qix, the Nintendo Entertainment System's (NES) port of Qix is by far the most accurate.
Qix is one of those Nintendo games that you seldom see. However, it is a really un game for the mind. I would buy Qix if I could get it for $10 or less, it isn't great enough to pay $50 for, though it is very addictive. I should know, what started out to be 5 minutes of play turned into hours.
