Prototypes

A prototype Nintendo game is one of the first copies of the game, programmed by the programmers, mainly used to test the game for bugs and to display their ideas.

Prototype Nintendo games usually contains Eprom, as opposed to the actual production roms. On a downside to this, the Eproms can (and will) eventually erase themselves leaving the owner with a worthless unplayable Nintendo cart. Yikes!!!

The following pages have lists of some of the Nintendo prototypes known to exist today. If you have something that isn't listed, please let us know.

Prototype NES Games - In this section, you will find pictures and information on several of the discovered Nintendo prototypes. There are also some peripherals listed.

Prototype Famicom Games - Over in Japan there are prototype Famicom games. Lesser known then the NES prototypes, quite a few Famicom prototypes have been discovered as well.

Test Carts & Hardware - this section of the website is dedicated to the various Nintendo test carts and hardware which have been discovered so far. Read on...
