Pac Land --- Namcot

For my first review, I have decided to choose Pac Land. The reason why I am writing about this game is due to the fact that Pac Land is little known...at least the NES version is.

In Pac Land, you control Pac Man himself as he ventures across numerous lands to reach his goal, the goal is unknown to me, I have yet to complete the game. The controls are a little goofy, you control Pac Man using buttons A and B, and you use the directional control pad to make Pac Man jump. It takes a while to adjust to the control settings.

Pac Land doesn't score too well in the music department either. Some of the tunes are okay, but the music to certain areas is actually quite annoying. Graphics are mediocre. Namcot did not work the graphics up to NES standards. The buildings, trees, etc are mainly silhouettes, reminds me of slightly improved Atari graphics. The forest reminds me of the forests of Atari 2600's Pitfall, mainly because of the silhouette factor.

Pac Land is sourt of difficult, but I cannot decide if that is because of the control factor or not. So should you buy Pac Land or not?

Pac Land is an average game. There are better games, such as Super Mario Bros and the Castlevanias, but there are worse games too. If you can find a cheap copy of Pac Land for Famicom, go for it, otherwise if you live in North America/Europe you shouldn't worry too much about this Asia only release.
