Gun.Smoke --- Capcom

If you imagine Contra being a western game, you'd probably come up with something similar to Gun.Smoke. You never have the oppourtunity to take a breath, it seems, during the intense parts of the game. Which is practically all of it. You play a gunslinger named Billy Bob whom is tasked with saving the town of Hicksville from a group of banditos calling themeselves the Wingates. The actual Wingates are just a pair of brothers, however, they have a long arm of lackees. Very long... They even have a Ninja!

During the first level, the game seems very tedious. It is a forward scroller, which means that enemies just appear, everywhere, and there is alot of shooting and you don't really know what to do. More shooting, more shooting, then the level loops. The truth is (as I found out), that you must painstakingly find a hidden Wanted ad with the bosses mug on it..... That is one of the most annoying things in a game to do, find something invisible. Invisible things are just bad news, remember that shitty E.T. game for the 2600? Falling into damn invisible pits all the time? It is somewhat similar to that. Luckily, Capcom thought of idiots like me, and there is an option to buy the Wanted ad. Thank god.

The game has six levels in total, six bosses and six Wanted ads.... At first the game gets going pretty easy, long levels and lots of shooting. Then there are a couple easy bosses. You know how I always complain about how the bosses in NES games are too easy? Not in this game. At first they're just difficult, but towards the end when you fight Fatman Joe and the Wingate Brothers, it is just damn hard! And that's only after you find the damn Wanted ads!

It is alot better than I expected. The graphics don't exactly suck, the music isn't tedious... However the text at the begining and end of the game where translated (?) by a Japanese child who doesn't actually speak English it seems... For some reason, the game actually reminds me of Metal Gear. Maybe because the sprites don't have faces or something. But it is a great game and I would definately reccomend it.

I give it a 7.5/10. Bad points: Tedious, Stupid Wanted Maps, Bad Engrish
