If your like the NES-NUT you don't have a heap of cash to spend on games, or you might have a signifigant other who does'nt see the value in collecting old games ;) I can't help you out with the little woman but I can tell you how to find games dirt cheap. Theres many places to get the most bang for your buck and heres a few that I like: Doing searches on-line will get you many pages that resell used games, Funcoland being one of the biggest.
And thats all fine and dandy, but I like to find stuff on my own. For starters you can luck out sometimes and find a Ms. Pac-man for three bucks, places that sell games know what they are worth so its hard to find a good deal.
Here in Michigan I like to go to yard sales, pawn shops, auctions that sell general merchandise & game stores.
Yard sales are great! You don't know how many games, comic books & baseball cards I've found for next to nothing. Think about this: when you move out of moms house she will most likely want to get rid of some stuff and guess what; your games, cards & comics are on the top of her list. Mom has been waiting for 18 years (or in my case she waited 23 years) for you to get off your rump and move out so she can turn your room into a disco museum or what ever. Now dear ol' mom, God bless her, does'nt have a clue as to what your #94 X-Men comic is worth nor does she care. The point is your $100.00 comic is sitting on a card table in the front yard with a 25 cent sticker on it. Then I walk up.... Hee, Hee. I feel for you, I went through the same thing when I moved out and mom turned my room into a Rolling Stone's museum. Some lucky stiff bought my ROOKIE JOHN ELWAY CARD FOR A QUARTER..... Me and mom have started talking again, but instead of crying about it I learned, and now I am the guy who's digging through yard sales insearch of buried tresure while your living on campus :)
OKAY sorry about the rambling but now you understand what a gem yard sales can be. This spring find the richest neighborhood near you and wait for the garage sale sign to come out. Get there early for the best goodies.
Sometimes you can luck out and find a great game at pawnshops too. The problem with pawnshop is that everyone goes there and they usually have a flat price on NES games usually $5-$10 bucks. K-Mart and Walmart are even getting into it, next time you stop by there look in the game/music dept. the games will be shrink wapped and priced. You can tell that they don't know what they are doing cause they will want $10.00 for Duckhunt and $5.00 for Tengen Tetris! You will really have to shop but the deals are there!
Auctions are not only a great place to shop, they are fun! Plus your keeping a bunch of junk from going into the landfill. I bought a good working Maytag washer for 30 bucks! The games are even better deals I watched a guy buy a NES system, all the hook-ups, controllers and about a hundred games for $50.00 bucks! It would of been mine but the guy happend to be my best friend, darn :) Most auctions open for viewing a few hours before the sale starts, GET THERE EARLY AND CHECK OUT THE STUFF BEFORE THE SALE! That way you'll know what your buying.
Lastly I like going to used game stores. This might get you thrown out of the store but I do it all of the time! Wait until someone comes in to trade a bunch of NES stuff, hang around by the counter and check the stuff out as the cashier adds up the items. You already know the poor schmuck is'nt going to get much for the stuff anyway. If your interested in the stuff try to pull the seller to the side and offer him five bucks more than the store offered. Number one the person will be mad at the store for offering $11.50 for $75.00 worth of stuff and number two he does'nt want to pack the NES stuff back home, he came to sell it right? I've got some great deals doing this in the past but I've been thrown out of a couple stores too so be careful! The only bad thing about it is you'll have to buy all of the stuff from the guy not just one or two games. Which raises another question what are you going to do with 15 mario games and 8 Duckhunts? What else? Have a yard sale ;)
Well thats my best ways to get games dirt cheap, if you have any other ways drop me a line, Please. Happy Hunting.........
The NES-NUT
Hey the Coley's have the right idea.
Rusty and Donna Coley wrote this:
Some video rental stores may sell used nintendo games. I got 2 used games for 10 bucks a couple of weeks ago, and they work fine.

They are right I tried this as soon as they wrote and I found Monopoly for FIVE bucks!
So next time your at the local video store, check into their games area. Remember, just because you do not see any NES games out doesn't mean they do not have them. Many video stores have moved the NES games off the shelf to make room for the PSX and N64 stuff; so they just might have a dusty box of cool NES games laying in the stockroom.
Thanks again Rusty and Donna for an excellent tip!

Here's another excellent tip!
Hi, my name is Brian Cobb and i also collect 8-bit nintendo games. I just read your "finding games" section and thought i would throw my two cents in. I keep a list of all the games i have and how many of each i have. I also have a list of games i need. I think you see were this is leading. ok, if ya don't :) I'm talking about trading games with ppl.
If i have 3 Metroids i might trade one of em for a Ninja Gaiden if that person had 2 of em. Before you make the trade make sure and test the game out! I've been jipped a couple of times when I traded and the games didn't work. Well, that's all i had to say.
'nuff said Brian
We do get the point and thank you for the excellent tip!

Watch FX's the Collectable Show(it may not appear in certain areas).
Well, sometimes collectors will be on the show & sell or show their
collectables & find out it's value. I've seen comics, toys, & cards on
the show. Maybe it's a good idea to watch, who knows, maybe an
unexpecting person who owns some good NES games might even sell them on
the show!

Well, interesting idea. From the mighty 1 time I have seen this show, I get the impression they are more interested in finding people who collect blue socks with red stripes that have mustard stains on them, but hey! You never know!
