"NEWS FLASH!!! Galoob discontinues the game genie due to declining sales over the past few years!" Blah blah blah blah blah. Why did galoob do this? Doesn't everyone like the game genie? Why were the sales going down? The reason is obvious. These 'new' systems just don't have hard enough games. Game genie is useless with these new games. Hand me a Playstation game and I'll beat it within days (unless it's FF7 or one of those RPG games) unlike old NES games where it took me years and years and years to beat games without using game genie. For example, lets take Ninja Gaiden. Cool game, good story line and it's hard as hell. I love games like Ninja Gaiden. After you pay your 50 bucks you go home and you can't beat it within a few weeks and you're dying to find out what happens etc. but you just CAN'T beat it. I bet Ninja gaiden was the game that is responsible for game genie :) This is one tough game and it took me over 5 years to beat. I'm not saying impossible games are always good (we all remember tiger helli LOL) but games that are hard to beat and are fun to play and have a good story line are the best. I loved the Ninja gaiden story. What the hell did the C.I.A turn Mr. Smith into? Geez I had nightmares about that thing....Anyway, I just love hard games like ninja gaiden. I paid my 50 bucks and I want to be entertained for more than 2 days. Why don't the game companies understand this anymore? Why did they have to make easy games? Why did the kill the game genie? Who knows, but I do know one thing for sure: It sucks. These games are so easy that nobody would even have the slightest urge to cheat. This is what killed game genie. Not only are the games so easy that you don't need to cheat, the games are usually never that good so you would never even want to cheat just for the hell of it. I hate these new games. They suck and they can kiss my (_|_) for all I care. No new game company will ever make a game as tough and good as Ninja Gaiden. NEVER. NES games were the only games that would FORCE you to 'zone' into them. If you didn't zone in you would lose. Lets take Mike Tysons punch out for example. Getting to Mike Tyson isn't very hard if you've played the game a few times but beating mike tyson is hard no matter how many times you've played. In Punch out you are FORCED to go into a mental stage of absolute concentration to win. You can't lose that concentration and if you do the next thing you know you are pounding on the buttons trying to get back up after being knocked out. The level of concentration required is just uncanny. It's like Cal Ripken Jr. playing shortstop in a critical part of game 7 of the world series. He has to go into a mental stage where everything is in slo mo and everything is quiet. He has to stay so focused and if his concentration is broken the team could lose the game. One second everything is cool, a half second later the game is lost. The same thing in mike tysons punch out. One second you are waiting for the 1 hit to KO punch, getting ready to dodge it, a split second later you are on the ground. Everytime I play Tyson in that game I have to go into what seems like another dimension. I have to make my brain think I'm just in a black space with nothing around me except me, my TV, my NES and my controller. This is quite a thrilling experience if you ask me. Everything in my dimension is in slow motion. I hear nothing. The dimension is so far from reality that only a beating/getting defeated by Tyson can snap you out of it. If there is a power failure or anything like that where the game just gets cut off then you'll be lobotomized. You'll never be able to return to reality. You'll be stuck in the punch out dimension waiting for Ref mario to point to you or tyson or saying T.K.O. You'll never come back....

Now tell me, has any post-NES game done this to you? Absolutely not. No post-NES game can do this to you and no post-NES game will EVER do this to you. This is how GREAT the old NES games were. This is how brilliant the game companies were back then. A video game that forces you to travel to another dimension? The guy who thought of Punch out was a freakin genius!!! No wonder why galoob discontinued the game genie. They realized that all these new games took 3 days to beat. I miss the Tyson dimension. I want to go back...but wait! How do I know I'm in reality? What if I was lobotomized in the Tyson dimension? What if my whole life ended when I got to mike tyson? What if I've been laying in a bed for the past 10 years..........

Good ole NES, I didn't realize how much it meant to me until it was gone. I was looking for some old Mario Bro/Zelda cartoons I had on tape and came across the movie 'The Wizard' EVERY NES fan has seen that movie (I coulda taken on Lucas no prob, him and his stupid power glove eheheheheh). Anyway, I popped in the Wizard, watched it and realized how much I loved NES. I jumped in my car and zoomed to the Toys R Us praying to God that they would have some new NES's or NES accessories or games. I was very disappointed when I got there. No new NES's, and only 3 games. They had 1 copy of Tetris 2, and 3 copies of Star Tropics 1 and 2 so I bought all of them. They also had a $hitload of NES cleaning kits for 90 cents a piece, about 10 of those BIG nes advantage contollers for 2 and a quarter, and some 4 player adapters for 2 and a quarter. I bought EVERY NES thing they had, and I only spent about 60 bucks. I took one of everything I got and put them in a display case I have just for new Nintendo stuff. I remember when I was a kid I walked into Toys R Us and they had a whole big wall filled with those NES games with the little packet of tickets underneath that you take to the customer service desk :) I went into a Toys R Us a few years ago, the wall was smaller but they still had NES games, but I blew them off. I didn't realize how much they meant to me at the time. I can honestly say that not buying a new nintendo or games a few years back in one of the worst regrets I have. You just never realize how much some things mean to you until they are gone. I've been searching for new NES accessories, not much luck. I can't find a place that has any new NES decks or games. Good ole NES, I remember playing Rampage and Who framed roger rabbit and Marble madness with my friends. We had a great time whenever we played NES. I play NES games because they are FUN. That's what games are suppose to be, FUN. I was playing Cruisn USA for N64 the other day, what a piece of $h!+ that game is. So I popped in RC Pro Am. MUCH BETTER. I can still do a lap backwards on the first stage, turn around and still come in first :) NES games are great. They are so much better than these new games that only take a day or 2 to beat. It took me over 5 years to beat Ninja Gaiden. Nowadays, you can't find a game that will take you a LONG time to beat. If these new systems can't produce good games, the console system companies will crash. The only thing that will save it is the re release of the NES and old NES games. LONG LIVE NES!!!

I couldn't have said it better myself! I think we all have waken up at one time to realize we needed our NES! This is from Mr. Glen Doty. Thanks, Glen!

NES is cool. That's my NES story. I've owned and NES for about 10 years now, and have played it even before that at my sister's friends house, so I guess you could say that NES has been a part of me for at least 12 years of my life, I think. I can't remember very well which was the first NES game that I ever played. It was either Super Mario Bros. or Duck Hunt. Anway, I can't remember well since I was very little, and it was a very short time. I remember the amazement of seeing Mario jump, and go down pipes. And how fun it was to actually shoot ducks on a TV screen. Pure simple fun. I was awed even by the fact that Mario could climb beanstalks into the clouds. I must have been 7 or 8 when my mom bought me an NES back in 1988. Super Mario Bros.2 was still a huge hit when I first played it after renting it out, and the game was pure joy. I couldn't rest until I had it. I thought it was just so real. The graphics looked like a cartoon to me, and you could play the Princess and Toad!! I had to have it. And once Howard bought it for me, I was in heaven. Those were some of my best NES memories. The NES was simple back then, and it will always be simple. I own an N64, and SNES, and I have tons of fun with them, but they can't compare to the NES. The NES is a legend, and I will try my best to have my NES in my possession till the day I die. And even then, the NES won't die. Even when the N64 is considered a classic by many, I hope to never leave my NES. Because NES is cool.

Who couldn't remember those games back in 1988? Who couldn't remember going over to your friend's house and playing all these games? Who couldn't remember getting crushed continually in Ice Hockey by my friend's older brother? Ahhh....the memories..... ______________________________

I was one of those people who didn't get rid of my old NES. Granted, once I got my SNES my old NES was farming dust in the closet, and I did think about selling it a few times, but Classified Ads were too expensive and nobody I knew wanted it. So, I kept it, along with the 5 games I had for it. Boy, am I glad I did. I started collecting NES games a couple years ago, when I stopped by the Swap Meet at the college and purchased Final Fantasy (A game I once had but mysteriously disappeared) for $5. A few months later, I went back and got Mega Man 4 (a game I once had but sold for $10) for $20. The following week, I got MM2 and MM3. I know have over 50 NES games. To this day I still go over to the swap meet and look for old NES and SNES games. I haven't been able to pick up any rarites, but I'm still very satisfied with what I have.

I've had an NES for 10 years now, I've gone through 3 old NES's. Now I've got one old NES, one new NES, one old Famicom and one new Famicom. Along with that, I've got TONS of accessories and 157 games to go along with it. So, I guess I'm in the catergory of NES Fanatic. I used to play the NES for at least 8 hours a day, during the summer, I would play almost all day with my SMS. I've written quite a bit of text about my fun times with the NES(NOTE:The webpage is now in our links. Jay) I've just had too much fun with my 8 bit systems than words can explain. Nintendo, forever with me.

The nintendo rules, and it should get the credit it deserves, and nobody wants to pay up to $100+ for 1 measly game. I mean, give some credit to the system that made them famous. Without nintendo, those guy's would be nothing. Before it was about making the customer happy, now it's all about the green. And when they came out with the Legend Of Zelda, people were stunned. People loved the game. Then they made The Adventure Of Link.

People were stunned again, only this time it was because the game was nothing like the first one. It wen't true to the saying that the sequel is never as good as the original. Then nintendo gave it another try and made Link's Awakening and A Link To The Past. They were hit's as well, now they're making Zelda 64, and what bothers me is that it's not a top view game, they're making the same mistake over again. I'm sure the game won't carry on the Zelda legacy.

I mean, sure, people are gonna buy this because of one reason, it say's ZELDA, but they aren't gonna enjoy it like the other Zelda games (Legend Of Zelda, Link To The Past and Link's Awakening). But the nintendo people won't care, because either way, they get what they wan't........MONEY. LONG LIVE NINTENDO.

I love the NES. When I got in into college, one of my freinds downloaded an Atari 2600 emulator, and we all had great fun. It got me into reminiscing about my childhood, all the fun I had with the Atari and the NES, among other things. Having thrown out my busted NES long ago, I started out in search of another one. I didn't want to pay $50 for the newfangled one at TRU, that's not the one I remember, so I ended up at Funco. I was so happy to find NES's and games DIRT CHEAP. The chick behind the counter tried to sell me a magazine subscription, I said what the hell do I need this for, I don't have an N64, no NES games are mentioned in here! I now have around 30 games or so. I have been collecting for eight months. I buy based on this philosophy: get the games I always wanted but never did, + must haves. Long live the NES.

I own 4 different systems.A Nintendo 64,Playstation,SNES,andI recently bought a NES.I would have to say that out of all the systems I own, I enjoy playing me NES the most.

I remember buying my first Nintendo, and over the years I collected about 20 different games. When the new sytems came out I sold my NES because I figured I would never play it again.Ooh.....was I wrong.

After playing the other systems I realized that nothing could beat the great fun that the NES brought me,and how much I missed playing the great games like the Zelda series, the Supper Mario Brothers games, and many others.

I looked around for a Nintendo and was lucky to find a new NES at Toys 'r' us which I purchesed. In a 1 month period I bought about 15 games and I am still collecting.Nothing can beat the NES!!!!!!

Yeah, I hear ya bro. I bought a PSX for $299.00 and a week later the price dropped to $199.00 and now you can get one for $149.00.

What does this tell us?....

I know what it tells me (other than I got hosed) It tells me that all of these "New Generation" companies invested in "great graphics" and forgot about the game play!!!

Listen to me folks! THE NEW SYSTEMS ARE STOCKED WITH GRAPHICS AND THATS IT! I admit that Mario64 is cool and a couple of the sports games are nice, but when I want to play a challenging game I pop in Zelda, Mega Man, Boulderdash, Final Fantasy and you get the point. And guess what you can buy all of the games that I've just mentioned along with a NES console for less than one "New Generation" game and still have a couple bucks left in your pocket!

Now tell me, where's the bargin?

Whoa sorry about that! I just read what I was typing and it looks like I'm preaching again.

Get out there and have fun, while I look for a volume or something :)

Hey, Just checked out your homepage... Very nice... :-) Especially the graphics...

I guess you could call this mail a one about just everything in general... I've been playing my NES since I've been about 5 and at this point in time have twenty-four games. (If you'd like a list, I'd be happy to send it.) Being a fathful person to it as I am, I've only sold two games for it to date. (Super Mario Bros 3 and Sesmie Street. I'm still kicking myself in the @$$ about SMB3... It was only to help perchase my SNES, which I'm about to sell at this point.)

With the subject of yard sales at hand, you should know about a vendor at the Auction (flea market/cattle auction/stuff auction all in one) in Springville, New York. He sells any game you can imagin there, plus Atari games for cheep. (He first tells you a stupid price for them, but if you keep bothering him, he'll go down to get you to go away. I bugged him for an hour to sell me Tengen Tetris for $5 [I was straped for cash, that's all I had] and he finally gave in.) I'd go there more often and sell on the Net, but I live in Ky and only get to go there once a year when I visit family. Just thought you'd like to know.

Later,

Are you reading this Jay? I'm sure all of the NES Yorkers out there are greatful for the info Heidi.

It's amazing what a person can get at flea market!

BTW, How was the movie "Tank Girl"? I hav'nt seen it yet?

About 3 years ago I sold my Nintendo to Funcoland and bought a fancy schmancy new Super NES and a crappy Game Gear. This was a huge mistake!

I never played either! Luckily Nintendo games have depreciated soooooo much that I sold my game gear back to Funcoland(gave my SNES to my cousin) and got back my nintendo and the same number of games I started with. What luck. I have found that nothing compares to the old NES. All of those nifty graphics and thousands of confusing buttons do not compare to the playability of games like Ducktales, Contra, and Tecmo Bowl. I am now playing my nintendo all the time. I am also looking to get a copy of Mega Man I. Why is that game so hard to find, and where can I get it for under $20?

Thanks,

Mike Kreps

******************

Yes sir I think we all agree with ya Mike. Mega Man has always been one of the greatest games of all time, just check our Top Ten pole. Oh yeah, sorry about that, I have to get a plug in when I can. People just don't sell that game so Funco has a hard time find it. So that's why it so $$$. Try K.F. Entertainment and see what Kevin wants for it.

Great story,

I went looking for a new style Nes and they don't sell them any more at the Toys R Us and Best Buy . What is wrong with these people cant they sence all has gone sour with the birth of 16, 32, and 64 bit systems. This will be the down fall of all modern video games and we will be forced to play with GIGA PETS AND TAMAGACHI and all those stupid virtual pets. Then our great gaming nation will suffer through another GREAT DEPRESSION. All the time the jack@$$es at SEGA, NINTENDO, and all other revolutionary gaming companies will be crying that they didn't follow the basics. Never should a game be so easy that you can beat it in less than a week. Never should the Graphics overshadow the Challange and total gameplay of the game. Never should a game cost more than the greatest system, NINTENDO!!!!
