Teleplay Modem --- Baton Technology
Baton Technologies was formed around 1992, they had had a stand at the local CES in February that year. The idea of the Teleplay Modem had come about from something known as "Network Snipes." There was actually three different Teleplay Modems, one developed for the NES, another for SNES, and a third for the Sega Genesis. A neat feature of the Teleplay Modem was that it allowed cross-platform gaming, a SNES gamer could play against a Genesis player and so fourth.
There was three different games developed for the Teleplay Modem, although none of them were ever released. Terran Wars, the advertised game, was a space shooter type game. Although the screenshots of this game do not seem to impressive, the game was in quite an early stage when the screenshots were taken.
Another game was made, Battlestorm. Battlestorm was a tank game, probably the most mature of the three Teleplay games. The last game planned was Sea of Vengeance, also known as Armada, a design document can be viewed here. Armada was a 2-player navel combat game.
The Teleplay Modem seems like it would have been a very very slick piece of hardware. Although I do not own one, I would love to try this hardware as well as the games out. If anyone wants to sell me a Teleplay Modem, it would be very very nice ;)
