I had first caught wind that there were a few hidden levels in Super Mario Bros. 3 a few years ago. Someone had sent me a Game Genie code for an unused ice stage. A little bit of Internet research revealed an IPS patch allowing access to a few more of the unused stages. Recently I had stopped by a messageboard where I noticed that a dude named Andrewo had created a few Game Genie codes allowing access to the long, lost SMB3 stages. This page was designed to preserve the codes that Andrewo made, as well as to inform others of the great levels that they are missing out on.

There are a total of 14 hidden stages that we know about. Some of these stages are incomplete, others are finished. Some of these stages have their enemies left intact, others load up with the incorrect enemy templates when using the Game Genie codes. Of the 14 stages, we do not have codes for two of them. However, I am sure that you'll enjoy what we do have.

This is a lost plains stage. The stage has both above and under water sections, making it similar to 3-9. The Game Genie code that was provided does not seem to work on some versions of the game. This is too bad considering the fact that this is one of our favorite lost stages.

Grassy stage, could have easily been an early version of 7-3. The highlight of the stage is a Kurbio's Shoe. To load the proper enemy set, enter the bonus area. To enter the bonus area, reveal the hidden note block between the other note blocks.

This underground stage is very reminiscent of stage 1-5 in the released Super Mario Bros. 3 game. The entrance to the stage features a double door, something not used in the final version of the game.

This castle is filled with power ups (such as Tanooki Suits). Since the pipe at the beginning of the stage leads out of the castle, one needs to imput the following Game Genie code: AOSUZI. This code allows one to remove blocks from the wall, allowing one to explore the entire depth of this castle.

AOZULT GGGGGGGG GGGGGGGG

This is probably the first new stage to be discovered by gamers. The stage is a short ice level, where the platforms rise and descend. Short and easy, though nothing like it made it into the normal game.

This is an icy water level. It reminds me of a more difficult version of stage 3-5. Enemies swarm at you from all sides, and the automatic scrolling does not help anything either. This is also the domain of the golden cheep-cheep, an enemy which does not appear anywhere else in the game.

This is a boring vertical water level. Swim up to the top of the stage where you can enter a pipe leading to the goal.

This is an interesting cloud level featuring Para Beetles, red and green. The green beetles are twice as fast as the red ones, making them harder to dodge. Another notable mention is the Fire Chomp towards the middle of the stage.

This is a simple cloud stage featuring both breeds of Para Beetles and coins. As of now, no Game Genie codes have been developed allowing one to access this stage on a real NES.

This stage reminds me of stage 1-6 on drugs. The stage starts out innocently enough, but towards the middle there is a beastly gap which Mario has to cross. You have to run at the gap with full speed and bounce off of a Koopa Troopa onto a hidden cloud in the sky. This is the only way to pass this stage...

This stage reminds me of stage 1-6 as well as the prior stage mentioned above. This stage is very incomplete.

This is an interesting cloud stage. The black squares at the top make us wonder if the stage was meant to be a night stage. On the other hand, the stuff at the top may just be left over garbage. We'll probably never know.

This unique cloud stage features Bullet Bills and weird (unused) cloud platforms. As of now, no Game Genie codes have been developed allowing one to access this stage on a real NES.

GGNUGGXE NZNUIKUL FFFFFFFF

Very generic plains stage. Due to the two different levels, I wouldn't be surprised to find this in world 7, Pipe Maze. All of the pipes are two-way. The best part of this stage, however, is a Kurbio's Shoe.
