Rescue the 2 POWs 3. Collect the Ammo 4. Gain entry into the building via the south door To enter Building 1: 1. From the ammo, go down one screen 2. Avoid the searchlights.(If you are caught, you must defeat enemy before proceeding) 3. Stay at the bottom of the screen, then go right.(Staying at the lower part of the screen allows the bushes to conceal you when you enter the building screen) 4. You should now be behind a large bush with the door and 2 guards to your right 5. Use the transceiver 6. After talking with John, he'll distract the guards and you'll be allowed to enter the building. Building 1 Description: 3 levels, main floor and 2 lower floors Objective: Collect the items and defeat the Boss Play: First floor 1. Get Card 1 2. Get the Silencer 3. Rescue the POW (C 1) 4. Go in and out of the room and punch the soldiers to collect ammo and rations 2. (Side view) go to the right avoiding the soldiers and alarms 3.After getting out of the water, continue right to the room 4. Defeat the Boss. 5. Enter the door. You can power up here 6. Enter the top door and go up the elevator 7. Place 6 plastic explosives on the blocks in front of the door to remove them, go through door 8. Go up, avoiding the guards 9. Cross the plank at the top. You are now on the ship Ship Description: 3 levels, main deck and 2 lower levels Location: After completing bldg 1 Objective: Collect the items and blow up the ship Play: Main Deck 1. Get to the area shown an the radar map (top right) 9. The helicopter will take you to the next area known as the mined compound. Mined Compound Description: Outside compound laden with mines. Several rooms containing items and an underground (side view) section Location: After blowing up the ship Objective: Collect the items and get to the train Play: Outside Note: You should be Rank 3 at this point 1. Get the Battery (1) and the Grenades (same room) (max. 20) (C 3) 2. Get the Remote Controlled Missiles (max. 15) And the Rations (same room) (C 1) 3. Rescue the POW (C 1) 4. Get the Oxygen (max. 5) (C 2) 5. Get the Plastic Explosives (max. 20) C 2) 6. Find the Secret Entrance, use plastic explosives on the sandbags below the room with oxygen 7. Stand in the lower left and use 3 remote missiles to take out the gentleman in the hole 8. Drop into the hole Underground: Sideview 1. Do not go left or you will end up back in the compound. You will come out the door which wouldn't open 2. Go to the right using plastic explosives on the barriers 3. In the room at the end, stock up on oxygen (max. 5) 4. Go up the elevator 5. You are now ready to enter the train Train Description: Four cars with rooms and tricky walkways connecting the cars Location: After getting out of the mined compound Objective: Collect the items and defeat the Boss, the fake JT. NOTE:IF YOU HAVE DEFEATED J.T AND THE TRAIN WON'T STOP, YOU CALLER FAILED TO RESCUE A P.O.W. OR GET AN ITEM. Play: First Car 1. Use Card 3 to go through the door 2. Avoid the heat panels and go through the door to the second car Second Car 1. The first door has a Battery and Grenades (C 1) 2. The second door has a claymore soldier. Do not enter 3. The third door has Ammo (C 1) stay at top to avoid pitfall 4. The fourth door has a claymore soldier. Do not enter Third Car 1. The first door has the X Ray Camera (C 1) 2. You cannot enter the next door without Card 4 Fourth Car 1. The first door has a POW (C 3) 2. The second door has Card 4 (C 3) stay along the bottom to avoid the pitfall 3. The third door has a Commander. He will not talk 4. Return to the third car Third Car 1. As soon as you enter the car, there is an enemy soldier, this is a good place to power up 2. Go into the first door (top) (C 4) 3. Defeat the Boss (fake John Turner) 4. Pick up the Power Armor 5. Exit the car and fall off of the walkway which connects the cars 6. You will now be in the second compound Second Compound Description: Another outdoors area which I have divided into three areas for easier reference. Location: After the train. Objective: Find and destroy the battle tank. Note: You will need to use the X Ray Lens to locate the walls to blow them up with explosives to get to areas. You will also need to use the power armor to move rocks. Play: Section 1 1. Get the Plastic Explosives (max. 20) (C 4) 2. Get the Oxygen (max. 5) (C 2) 3. Rescue the POW up and left from the train. Move the rock using the power armor and blow up the wall 4. Go up and left, then blow up the wall 5. Go right and blow the wall 6. Get the Binoculars (aka optic lens, telescope) (C 2) 7. Rescue the second POW (move the lower rock) (C 2) your rank should increase to 4 stars 8. Get the Shotgun, up and right from binoculars (C 4) 9. Go through the door to the right of the binoculars (C 3) 10. Ride the boards to the door on the right wall 11. You are now in what we will call section two. Section 2 1. Blow up the two walls 2. Building 2 Description: There is a main floor with items and an elevator which will take you to the tram Location: After destroying the battle tank Objective: Get to the tram. Play: 1. Get the infrared goggles (aka night sight) (C 2) 2. Get the truth gas (max. 5) (C 2) 3. Take the elevator up 4. Use the goggles to safely pass the alarms 5. Get on the tram (either one) and you will be taken to building three Building 3 Description: 1 level Location: After riding the first tram Objective: Collect the items and get to the tram Play: 1. After getting off of the tram go past the alarms and down the elevator 2. Use the truth gas on the Commander, far left (C 1) 3. Rescue the POW, down and right from the commander (C 3) 4. Go back to the elevator and ride the tram to bldg 4 Building 4 Description: 1 level Location: After riding the second tram Objective: Get the items and get to the tram Play: 1. Go back to the elevator and ride the tram to bldg 5 Building 5 (Card 6 to enter) Description: 3 levels, main level and 2 lower levels Location: After riding the third tram Objective: Get to building 6 via the underground passage located on the third level down (after collecting the items of course) Play: Main Level 1. Return to the elevator and go down. Third Level Down On this floor is one room containing three doors. Each door leads to a different area. Top Door 1. On the floor you will find the boots, card 5, and ammo, use caution or you will also find the pitfall 4. Return to the beginning (third level down) Left Door 1. Get the armor vest (aka body armor, bullet proof vest) (C 5) 5. Get the hidden microphone (aka bugging equip) (C 4) 6. Get the truth gas (max. 6) (C 5) 7. Return to the beginning (third level down) Right Door 1. This is the passage to building 6 2. (Side view) go all the way right 3. Once you go through the door you are at the elevator in the lower level of building 6 BUILDING 6 MENU Description: This building is rather large and at times confusing. Strongly suggest map making. There are two basic levels, but you will have to use the elevators to get to various areas. I've divided the building into sections using reference points as much as possible for each section. The sections are listed below in order of play. Objective: Find and defeat Big Boss Second Level Down First Section (from elevator) Main Level First Section (from elevator) Main Level Second Section (room with moving boards) Main Level Third Section (after first gas room) Second Level Down Second Section (from elevator) Second Level Down Third Section (2nd gas room) Main Level Fourth Section (from elevator) Big Boss' Floor Second Level Down Location: Go up the elevator located at the end of the passage from building 5 Note: You cannot get to the left or bottom areas of this floor until you get to the elevator found on the main level (main level section three). Play: 1. Get the Flare Bombs (max. 30) (C 6) 2. Use truth gas on the Commander center right (C 5) 3. Get the Grenades (max. 40) (C 4) 4. Rescue the POW left center (C 2) 5. Get Card 7 (C 4) when you exit the room do not go down 6. After collecting the above items, go back to the elevator 7. Go up to the main level. Main Level First Section Location: Go up the elevator located at the end of the passage from Building 5 Play: 1. Get the Plastic Explosives (max. 30) (C 7) 2. Use the flare gun in the dark area 3. Rescue the POW (C 4) watch the pitfall your rank should increase to six stars 4. Watch for pit falls as you explore this section 5. Use truth gas on the Commander lower right (C 2) 6. The door in the lower right (C 5) will take you to the next section main level second section (the room with the moving boards) Main Level Second Section (room with moving boards) Location: after the main level first section Play: 1. Ride the boards to the door on the right wall 2. Collect the Rations (max, 18) 3. Rescue the POW the door by the rations (C 2) 4. Go back into the room with the boards and ride them to the door on the bottom right 5. Use card 6 to go through the lower door 6. You should now be in a room with gas and 2 blocks in front of the door let's call this the first gas room 7. Use 6 plastic explosives to remove the blocks (use the rations to stay alive) 8. Use card 7 to exit the room we will now begin a new section... Let's call it the main level third section Main Level Third Section (after the first gas room) Location: after the first gas room which is located in the main level second section Play: 1. The pow in the room (C 4) is a trap.. He explodes 2. Go left and then up, careful of poisoned spikes 3. Get the Back Pack (C 7) 4. Return to the area with the exploding pow, DO NOT enter the room, instead stand to the right of the door and use the x ray and blow up the wall. 5. Ditto (which means to repeat..Copy..Etc etc) 6. Card 7 will get you into the room at the top in here you will get a message which reads "..., ....., ...?" 7. Use the hidden microphone to get an important message 8. Exit the room and blow up the left wall 9. Go up past the poisoned spikes to the elevator 10. Take the elevator down one level.. You are now in the second level down second section area Second Level Down Second Section Location: Off of the elevator described in the last part of the main level third section Play: 1. From the elevator, go down three screens avoiding the missiles and claymore soldiers 2. Go right, the room (C 6) contains an exploding pow 3. The next door to the right (C 6) is the second gas room 4. Use 6 plastic explosives on the blocks to get to the door 5. Use card 6 to exit 6. Punch This is what you do with your fist (no duh) if you defeat the enemy soldiers by punching,you may receive rations or ammo. Knife You start with this, it's an effective weapon if you are low on ammo or if you haven't found the silencer. Handgun You start with this, but cannot use it until you get some ammo. Shotgun Use this when you are swarmed with enemy or use it on some of the tougher enemies like the grenade throwers. X Ray Camera (lens) Detects weak spots in walls so you can blow them up with explosives. (While using the lens, the wall will shake). Location Train, 3rd car, 1st door, C 3 Hidden Mike (aka bugging kit) Inspired by watergate, this device allows you to overhear enemy conversations taking place behind walls only used in Building 6. Location Building 6, main level, 4th section, center right, C 7 Back Pack Use it to carry twice as many Missiles and Mines. Location Building 6, 3rd section (after 1st gas room) top left C 7 Antenna Allows you to use the Transceiver when it's been electronically jammed. Location Building 4 (after 2nd tram) top right, C 4 Battery (dry cell) Recharges your transceiver when the battery is low. Location Mined Compound (after ship) 4th screen up, C 3 Building 1 Boss third level down after the sideview screen Description 5 guys who rush at you bumping into you. Offense: Use grenades until you run out and then use the gun it will take 6 grenades or about 10 shots from the gun per enemy. Defense: Stay at the bottom of the screen, moving left and right to dodge. You will still take a few hits but you will be in a better position to attack while they are retreating. Boss on Ship second level down, upper right, C 1 Description 3 gentlemen in foxholes tossing grenades at you. Offense: Use grenades until you run out, then use claymores,or plastic explosives. It will take six grenades or claymores per enemy to destroy them. Take out the guy in the center first, then the one on the right, and finally the one on the left.If you use the claymores, place them at the top, run down a few steps, face in the direction of the enemy and fire when he raises up. Defense: Running circles seems to be the best strategy to avoid the grenades. Throw two grenades then run in a wide circle Boss on Train Third car, top door, C 4 NOTE: If the caller has defeated Fake J.T. and the Train won't stop, they probably forgot to get the X Ray Camera. Description Fake John Turner (your fellow commando) who turns into a soldier who likes to fire claymore mines attempting to inflict bodily injury on your person Offense: Use grenades (approx. 18) if you run out of grenades, use remote missiles or your gun. Defense: Stay in the top left area moving right and left to dodge the claymores. Note: This guy can be very difficult, the upper left area seemed to be the best area to dodge his shots. Battle Tank At the end of the second compound (after Train) Description A big tank that tries to hurt you. He moves on the bridge in front of you, then will back up off the screen, firing all the time Offense: Only land mines work (18 of them). Defense: The safest (not the quickest 4 6 minutes) way is to stay on the first screen instead of chasing the tank up the bridge. Place three mines on the bridge, then move off the bridge to the dirt, standing even with the left rail. This seems to be the safest spot. After the tank hits the mines and retreats, repeat the steps described above. I'm not sure, but I think that by stepping on the bridge you can coax the tank into appearing again, because it can take some time before he will reappear Big Boss At the end of Building 6. Description He is something of a 'rebuilt Big Boss' salvaged from the destruction in Metal Gear 1. He moves around shooting at you with a gun, and then midway through the fight turns into a cyborg and begins to shoot fireballs at you...and boy is he tough. Normal Big Boss: Offense: Use Claymores on him (approx ?). Defense: Stay in the upper left using the body armor and the block for protection. Cyborg Big Boss Offense: You cannot defeat the Cyborg while he is in the room with his life support system. Leave the room thru the bottom door and he will follow. You can only use land mines (approx. 40) as his only weakness is the bottom of his feet. ONE SUGGESTED STRATEGY: Go down 2 rooms from the life support room. There are crates in the middle of the room. Stand in the top right above the crates and drop Land Mines. Defense: Lure him out of his room by going thru a bottom door Set the mines then run around avoiding the fire. You can go through the bottom door and he will follow. You can continue going through doors. Use this strategy and ambush him when he enters the room. Metal Gear 2 Located in the Plant Description A big tank sitting in a secured room that cannot be entered. Offense: The only way to defeat MG2 is to fire remote missiles through the little gates as they open and close. Perfect timing is essential. Guide the missiles through the corridor and hit the round flashing light in the center. (Approx. 18 20 missiles). Defense: No defense is necessary because you aren't getting shot at. However you do have a timer counting down and a limited supply of missiles, so fire quickly and accurately. POWS You will be able to find (rescue) pows throughout the game. For every 4 pows you rescue you will receive a rank increase Jungle 1. From the rations, go right then up 2. From the first pow, go right, up, right, up Building 1 1. Trams To get onto the Trams, stand to the right and wait until they "dock" then just walk onto them. These are little cars suspended from cables which will transport you from building to building (2 5). When you board a tram, you will be on top. You'll go through two overhead screens, one sideview screen, and two more overhead screens before reaching your destination. When you are in the sideview scene, stand at the front or the back of the tram to avoid detection by the soldiers looking out the windows. If you are seen, you will have to battle with soldiers wearing jetpacks. Use your knife or gun to destroy them Other Useful Information 1. Punch enemy soldiers to collect rations and ammo. 2. When you find a room with ammo, mines, etc, you can go in and out of the room repeatedly until you're maxed. 3. If you are having difficulty in an area, find a place to punch a soldier (keep going in and out of room) to get maximum rations and ammo. This is referred to as powering up. 4.
