DRAGON WARRIOR 4 FAQ AND WALKTHROUGH version 1.0 Even though this is an old game for the NES system I'm sure people will fire it back up when Dragon Quest 6 or Dragon Warrior 5 hits over here. So I figured since nobody bothered to make a FAQ for this game it was about time one was done. Don't worry I will try to leave as much of the story out of this FAQ as possible. The whole fun of any RPG is the story and giving that away is like making a music CD with no music or something like that. Anyway the FAQ is set up by chapters because the game it's self is divided into 5 chapters. Chapter 5 is still under construction as due to time constraints I've had to cut it short but I will complete it in a future edition. In a future version of the FAQ there will be a section on Casino Gambling and another section called Neat Stuff!! The Casino section will detail the ins and outs of the Endor casino and Neat Stuff!! just gives away other interesting info that may be of help to you in the last chapter. Anyways thanks for taking the time to download my FAQ. Please e-mail any comments/donations to me at the following e-mail address................. CASINO GAMBLING (Look for it in an updated Version) 9. NEAT STUFF (Look for it in an updated Version) MY THOUGHTS ON DRAGON WARRIOR 4 AND THE SERIES The Dragon Warrior series to me is the greatest RPG series ever created. Nuff said :-) I will elaborate in a future version of this FAQ. HELPFUL HINTS- Here's just a few helpful hints that applies throughout the game. 1. Always check drawers or silver jars for items. You can find many useful items searching through them. 2. Always talk to everyone during the day and everyone during at night. Especially during the night people more often than not change there story. 3. Make sure you get Non Playable Characters to help you out. The non playable characters are usually very important. Even though you can't control them and they can't gain experience they are invaluable to completing tasks. 4. Build experience that's the only way you'll get more powerful. Throughout the FAQ and Walkthrough I'm not going to go into too much detail on how to build experience or how to defeat the regular enemies other than the bosses. Pretty much all you need to know about building experience is too keep fighting till your HP is getting low or your MP is down to low levels. At this point go to an inn to bring those levels up to the max and continue fighting. 5. Most importantly save as often as possible especially after you finish a cave or some difficult task. 6. Many plain looking doors are left unlocked try the door command to open them and people behind those doors will probaly give you important clues. Another thing throughout the 5 chapters there are 3 different keys that will help you open the different types of doors make sure you get them!! 7. There are different types of terrains in the world of DW4. Just to note you will find the least amount of enemies in the plains or grassy plains of the world and you will find more enemies in swamps, low mountains and deserts. This will come in helpful when you are trying to fight enemies or trying to avoid them to stay alive. CHAPTER 1-The Royal Soldiers Playable Characters: Ragnar (a royal soldier from Burland Castle) he can't use magic but he can equip most weapons and armor available in the game Non Playable Characters: Healie (a healer monster that befriends you if you find him) very weak fighter but his healing magic will come in useful near the end of the first chapter You start off in Burland castle as Ragnar the soldier immediately after the King gives his speech talk to all the people both at night and day and then you can start off building experience outside the castle. When your up to level 3 you should be able to tackle the cave to the west which leads to Izmit village it's a very simplistic cave with 2 treasures in it a medical herb and 40 gold pieces. Belive me you don't need any directions if your at level 3 it's very simple as the enemies aren't tough either. Bringing a couple of medical herbs wouldn't hurt either in case something freakish happens during one of your battles. NOTE: I reccomend to save up your money for a boomerang at Izmit village so don't spend your money on weapons in Burland the Copper Sword is suitable until you reach Izmit. When you reach Izmit hmm What do you do? Q: What do you do when you get to Izmit village I've talked to everybody and it's gotten me nowhere? A: First you have to go back at night to Izmit and talk to one of the kids in the village he will tell you the name of the man being locked up in jail. Then once he tells you what his name which is Alex go talk to Alex in jail. After this you'll remember (if you talked to everybody) that back in Burland a woman was looking for a man named Alex. Go back to Burland talk to the woman and take her back to Izmit to see Alex. After doing the above Alex will tell you that a secret playground is 4 steps south and 4 steps east of the village signpost. Now you should equip the boomerang to tackle this cave as the monsters are alot more difficult then what you've seen before. Also you have to go through that whole process even if you know the playground is 4 steps south and east of the sign post or else the game won't let you in to the underground playground. OK now it's time to tackle the cave if you've talked to everybody or have seen the tower to the west of Izmit it's kind of obvious you have to go in there. One question how do you do this? Well as soon as you enter the playground there are voices that will tell you where to go and even if you go the wrong way the voices will tell you. This should lead you to the flying shoes. No monsters will attack you if you are going the correct way to the flying shoes. So another clue to if your going the wrong way is the fact a monster will attack you. Now you can use the flying shoes to get in to the tower to the west. Now you've got the flying shoes but before you tackle the tower there are 2 things that are very helpful in that cave to aid your quest. One of them is the monster Healie that will join you when you find him and the other is 600 gold pieces. I would reccomend getting Healie first before the gold pieces and also be sure to bring medical herbs to heal Ragnar as the enemies are pretty tough. If your at level 4 and have a few medical herbs you should be able to go through it with out too much of a problem but being at a higher level doesn't hurt. Q: So how do you get the monster Healie? I can't find him anywhere A: OK well he's in the underground playground. From where you land here's where you go keep taking down's and lefts until the only way to go is right take that right and take your first down you see. That leads to the stairs to the second level from there head right and follow the path until you find Healie. Just talk to him and he'll join you. Q: OK so where's the gold pieces? A: From where you land do the same thing as your going to get Healie except when you get to the second floor take that first up instead of going right. Go all the way up and ignore the middle paths and take the top right path follow that and it will lead to the 600 gold pieces. I tried to describe the path as best I could so please no hate mail :-) Now that you have the gold pieces you should almost have enough money to buy Half Plate Armor which will help you greatly in the tower. Don't upgrade your weponry you'll find a very powerful sword in the tower so make sure you upgrade your armor and if you have extra money I'd reccomend buying a wood hat as you will find no other helmets in this chapter. Now you should be at least level 7 to tackle the tower with the Half Plate Armor. There are alot of treasures in the tower like the Sword of Malice which is very helpful. OK now that you have upgraded your armor go ahead and use the flying shoes. You'll find yourself on top of the tower. NOTE: You can get off of the tower if you go back to this floor and walk straight down. You'll fall off the tower and you can walk to Izmit village. This comes in handy if your HP or MP levels are low. Another thing it is reccomended that you take a couple of trips through here to clean out all the treasure before you take on the boss. It will get your levels up higher through conquering enemies also the treasures like the Sword of Malice are very helpful in your battle with the boss. I promise this is the last thing make sure you bring 3-4 medical herbs on your trips through the tower. Sometimes Healie the NPC can do some dumb things occasionly and die on you. First walk up straight to the first stair case. Now your on the 3rd highest level if you go up you'll find a wing of wyvern so don't bother going up there instead go straight down and take a right. Follow the path until you reach a stair case this leads down to level 2. On Level 2 you can find a few useful items. There's a strength seed, 640 gold pieces, and a scale shield available. The gold pieces are easy to get just go straight up to the door open it and inside is the gold pieces. You can find the strength seed if you keep going up from the stair case to level 3 (from wher you came from) and go up the stair case you find. The scale shield is also easy to find from the stair case to level 3 go left and then go up in that opening you see. The chest is in that area. Continue going up to go to the next level or the ground level. Now you find yourself on the ground level or Level 1. From where you start out on this level go up then take a left and you'll find the Sword of Malice this is the most important item in this chapter. From the sword of malice go right all the way to find a luck seed. Now that you have the sword you just have to get to the boss. From the entrance to level 2 go straight down. There's a healing spring if you enter the stairs directly south of the entrance to level 2 so unless you want to have a tough time against the boss enter the healing spring and your HP and MP will be refilled. From here take a left, go down then take a right (Dont' take that south enterance on the way to the right it leads out of the tower) and then go all the way up. The stairs to the basement level are here and that's where the boss is. BOSS'S PARAMENTERS: NAME(S) SARO'S SHADOW-HP IS 250 GIANT EYEBALL- HP IS 42 Before you take on the boss make sure your HP and MP are full or near full and that you have 3-4 medical herbs. I reccomend that you get to level 9 or 10 to defeat the boss. I did it at level 8 but it was pretty difficult. Now you should be ready to take him on. Destroy the eyeball first just to get him out of the way. It should take around 3-4 hits to get rid of him. Now you can fight Saro's Shadow. Just keep fighting with Ragnar and let Healie heal you. It should be easy if Healie doesn't do anything stupid if he does and dies on you hopefully you will have medical herbs to heal Ragnar if not you'll probaly die so make sure you have the medical herbs. Saro's Shadow takes awhile to defeat so be patient. He has different magic attacks but nothing overly powerful to wipe you out on one hit so Healie can do the job nicely. After defeating the boss just return to Izmit than go to Burland and talk to the King again he'll reward you. That is the end of chapter 1 now on to Chapter 2. CHAPTER 2- Princess Alena's Adventure Playable Characters: Alena- (princess from Santeem Castle) tomboyish princess who is a very powerful fighter. She can't use any magic attacks but her friends that accompany her make up for it Cristo- (Alena's fatihful servant from Santeem officially a chancellor) he's an average fighter but can cast some useful magic as well. Brey- (Alena's tutor and a wizard from Santeem) weak fighter but very powerful magic user, his ice spells like Icebolt and Snowstorm cause plenty of damage on enemies Non Playable Characters: None to speak of In this chapter you start off in the castle of Santeem. Some people can get stuck because you can't get out of the castle it may seem dumb but it can happen. Q: I just finished Chapter 1 but now I can't get out of Santeem Castle the guards are blocking the exit and this guy is fixing the wall in Alena's room? How do I get out!!!!!!! A: Well first talk to every character in the castle that you can get too including Brey and Cristo. After you do that go back to Alena's room and the guy fixing the wall should be gone. Just search at the wall and you will be asked to kick it open. Say yes and jump thru the space and you can find your way out. NOTE: In Alena's room in one of her drawers is a feather hat which is very useful for your defense. So make sure you search all of her drawers before you leave the castle. Now that you have exited the castle Brey and Cristo will join you and you should be all set to go off on your adventure. Firstly go to Surene the town next to Santeem and buy a Copper Sword for Cristo with your 100 dollars and give the Club to Alena. You don't have to do this but I reccomend it considering Alena does not have a weapon and cannot equip the Copper Sword. If you've talked around the town you should know that there is a town to the North East. When you've built all the characters to Level 3 go up toward the town which is called Tempe. NOTE: You cannot save the game in Tempe so make sure you save the game in Surene before going to Tempe it will save alot of headaches if you get defeated by the monster In this town a terrible prediciment is going on and it involves a group of monsters. Talk to the Shaman in the town and he will ask you if you want to fight the monsters by going in the offering litter. First make sure you have full MP and HP and say Yes to the Shaman and they will take you to the monsters. BOSS'S PARAMENTERS NAME(S) 2 RABIDHOUND'S-HP 23 CHAMELION HUMANOID- HP 40 Q: What are the best strategies to defeat the monsters in Tempe? A: The monsters are 2 dogs and the Chamelion Humanoid. First I reccomend that you cast Upper on Brey if Cristo has the spell so he doesn't die off easily. After that take out the dogs by having Brey cast Icebolt on the dogs and have Alena and Cristo attack the dogs also. Defeat one dog at a time. Have Cristo heal the characters when needed as well as the monsters are pretty tough considering your level in the game. When the dogs are defeated have Brey cast Sap on the Chamelion Humanoid and have Alena and Cristo fight him until he's defeated. Don't have Brey cast Icebolt on the Humanoid as it isn't effective just have him defend until you defeat the Humanoid. After defeating the monsters go back and talk to all the people again. You then learn that a town is to the north east of Tempe which is called Frenor. I suggest you go there after spending a night at the inn. If your characters are at level 5 then you shouldn't have a problem reaching there but a purchasing a few medical herbs wouldn't hurt either. Make sure you dont die because remember you can't save at Tempe so get to Frenor as quickly as possible and save the game. NOTE: Don't worry about upgrading your weaponry as of yet. After you defeat the monsters in Tempe the item shop will open but the weapons are really not worth purchasing even the boomerang. I reccomend that you wait till you get to Frenor and get the Chain Mail for Cristo instead. Now after traveling North East your at Frenor SAVE THE GAME!! After you do that go talk to everybody and go inside the inn. An event will occur in the inn somebody named May gets kidnapped. I won't tell you who May is but she gets kidnapped and the kidnappers want the gold bracelet as a ransom. So where do you find the gold bracelet? If you talk around town you find out that the Gold Bracelet is in the Cave South of Frenor. So it's off to the cave, but first you have to prepare. I highly reccomend that you get Brey's level up to level 7 before tackling the cave. He is able to use the outside spell after he gets to level 7. This is useful because you can cast it to escape from the cave if you get in any trouble. Another thing you should have enough money to buy some Chain Mail for Cristo so I reccomend buying that for him and possibly a Wooden Hat as well if you have the gold. As usual a few medical herbs can't hurt either. NOTE: When building experience outside of Frenor mainly have Brey use Icebolt until he runs out of MP when he does go back in town and rest at the inn and save your game. As usual have Alena and Cristo fight. This should bring your levels up to 7 in a short period of time. Now you have to tackle the cave!! If your at level 7 you should be all set as you can cast the Outside spell if you get in any trouble. The cave is directly south of Frenor so it can't be that hard to find. When you enter the cave there are 2 ways to go left and down if you go down you will go to a chamber with a Wing of Wyvern so you should go left to get anywhere. You will see a pedestal and a treasure chest there inside the chest is an agility seed it's up to you if you want it. The best treasure in the cave is in a little path directly north of the pedestal go through that path and you will get 360 gold pieces. Go back out thorugh the path and head left and to the left of the pedestal there is a little ladder type looking thing go down that and follow the path. It makes a complet U turn and leads you to the stairs to the next level. NOTE: Make sure Brey's magic doesn't drop to the point where he can't use Outside. If it does drop then your going to have to get the magic potion which is explained how to get below. Now onto Level 2 the two treasures here are the Golden Bracelet and the Magic Potion. When you enter this level you can go down or right don't go down as it's a dead end. So take the right and then down into this chamber with skeletons to the south side of the chamber. You will see a left take that to get to the magic potion. If Brey's magic points are low you should definetly get this so you can cast his Icebolt spell and Outside spell if needed. Now that leaves only one question left.. Q: Where is the Golden Braclet? I keep running into dead ends in this cave A: OK from where you enter the second level (the stair case) take a right into the chamber with the skeletons in the south part. Even though it looks as the skeletons in the south are a dead end you can actually walk right over them and into another chamber. In this next chamber just remember that you can walk over the skeletons and you should find an easy way to the chest which is too the far left. I hope that this is clear enough :-) When you get the golden bracelet have Brey cast the outside spell to get out of there pronto. Then proceed back to Frenor to rest and save the game. If you talked to everybody you should know that you have to meet the kidnappers at the graveyard during the night. So walk around outside of town until it turns night and then go to the graveyard. You have to exchange the Gold Braclet for May. When you do that the kidnappers leave and May will give you the Thief's Key. This key will open the gold doors with the cross like thing on them. If you remember there were some doors like that in Surene and Santeem. However talk to people in Frenor one last time before you go you'll discover that there is a desert Bazzar going on to the South West of Frenor. To the South West of Frenor (West of the cave where you get the golden bracelet) there is a small Bazaar. There is no town in the desert so you just have to walk to the place where you see that little lake with a bunch of trees right next to it. In the Bazzar there are many weapons and armor that you will need to buy. I reccomend you getting a Bronze Armor for Cristo along with a Morning Star weapon. That will make him a very good fighter. Also upgrade Alena's weapon to a Chain Sickle and get her Chain Mail to protect her. Brey meanwhile should get equipped Leather Armor. That should be at most what you can afford however if you got the gold pieces than get a Wooden Hat for Cristo and a Leather Hat for Brey. As for Shields you could get a Scale Sheild for Brey and Crsito. However at this point you probaly don't have enough money to get all those weapons so just get the body armor and weapons first you don't need the helmets or the shields as of yet they're not as important. NOTE: As with Tempe there isn't a priest to save your game in the Bazzar so keep that in mind. You'll have to return to Frenor or Surene to save the game. Brey gets the Return spell at Level 9 so after you get that you can save your games much easier. If your building experience around the Bazzar and Brey isn't at Level 9 than you'll have to buy Wings of Wyverns to return to save locations. When talking to everybody in the Bazaar you should run into the soldier he will tell you that something awful has happened back at the castle. When you go back to the castle you and talk to everyone in the Kings Chamber you discover that you must talk to the guy in the back yard of Santeem (Goz). Go jump out of Alena's room and use the thief key to open the door to Goz's house he tells you that Marone the poet knows the solution. Marone is that guy in Surene who is at top of that castle like building in the back. So when you talk to him you discover that he got this substance called Birdsong Nectar which will more than likely solve the predictiment. He tells you that he ran across it in a Desert Bazaar. Go back to the Bazaar and talk to the item shop owner but make sure you don't talk to him across the counter. He will tell you that you can find some in the tower to the west which is miraculously called the Birdsong Tower. Now you must go to the Birdsong Tower which is pretty tough especially if you didn't pick up the equipment in the Bazaar and your levels aren't up to 11 or 12. I definetly reccomend that you build your levels around the Bazzar defeating Sand Master's and other enemies and getting the gold to purchase those items. When your levels get up to 11 or 12 you can more than likely tackle the Tower with out too much of a problem When going to the Birdsong Tower use as many MP's as you need to get your party over to the Tower. The reason being is that for some strange reason an inn is at the enterance of the tower. If you just walk straight from where you enter and into that gap in that cross linked stuff there's a stair case that leads to an inn. There you can get your MP's and HP's to the max if need be. OK now you have to go up the tower to get the Birdsong Nectar. The tower isn't that difficult to find you way around it's just the enemies in the tower that could give you problems if your levels are low. If Brey is up to Level 11 you shouldn't have any problems with the enemies as he can use his Snowstorm spell to inflict 30-40 HP damage on any monsters. The treasures in the tower are as follows Wing of Wyven, 1200 gold pieces, Strength Seed, and the Birdsong Nectar. To get the Birdsong Nectar move your party as follows.. From the enterance go to the left and up and you'll see a huge door. Enter it using the door command and go up the stairs. From where you are now in level 2 go to the right and you will see a chamber in which there are 3 paths going down take the left path going down and follow it till you find another stair case. This leads you to level 3. In case your in trouble in this level you can fall off the tower and return too the Bazaar if you walk straight down off the edge just left and down of the enterance. If your levels are fine keep going left and follow this path that wraps around the huge black pit. Make sure you don't fall down off the pit or you will end up back in level 2. If you correctly follow the path you should reach the stair case up to level 4. From here there is another stair case to the top level just down and left to where the stair case is. When you get to the fifth level these strange beings(won't give anything away) are collecting the nectar and drop it when they abruptly leave. Just search where they originally were before they disseapeared and you should have the Birdsong Nectar. From here use Outside to get out of the tower and the Return spell to go to a town to rest and save the game. There are other treasures that you can get in the tower like the 1200 gold pieces which I reccomend getting. You'll need the cash later. To get the cash from the enterance of the tower go left and up through the door and up to level 2. From the enterance to level 2 go left and you'll see 2 paths that go down take the one on the left and follow that path till you reach a stair case than go up it. From here it looks like a dead end with that cross linked stuff in front of you. However bump into cross linked stuff and attempt to walk through it. You should be able to walk through a section of it and inside will be a couple of treasure chests one containing the 1200 gold pieces and the other containing the Strength Seed. Now that you have the Nectar head back to Santeem and use the Nectar on the King. In case nothing is happening make sure that you are directly in front of the King and go to the item menu and use the Nectar than you should be all set. After the King tells you what is on his mind he will actually let you (Alena) go out and explore the world. Q: OK now that I've gone and gotten the Birdsong Nectar and gaven it to the King what do I do now? Where do I go? A: In your travels between Frenor and the Bazzar you may have seen a shrine east of the Bazzar and south of the cave where you got the Gold Bracelet. If you go there again after you have gave the Nectar to the king the guard won't be blocking the way to the travel gate. Proceed in the travel gate and you'll pop up in another shrine. From here go south east and you'll find a big castle called Endor. The enemies are pretty tough so if Brey still doesn't have the Snowstorm spell you may be in some trouble. I highly reccomend you get your levels up to 11 before you go to Endor because the Rouge Knights and Skeletons will make you easy prey if you don't. Now that your in the huge castle town of Endor you notice that many things are going on. One being a tournament. If you talk to the King he will ask you (Alena) to enter it because he is regretting the promise he made (can't tell you what that is ). In the tournament you can only fight with just Alena so make sure you get her good equipment especially the Iron Claw. It costs 1600 gold pieces but if you got that gold from the tower getting 1600 shouldn't be much of a problem. Unfortunetly the best Armor Alena can have right now is the Chain Mail and the Feather Hat so that will have to do for the tournament. I reccomend that your level be around 14 or 15 when you enter the tournament and that you make sure Alena has all the medical herbs she can carry when fighting the battles. If your levels are low building experience shouldn't be that tough the enemies are strong but Brey can wipe them out with his Snowstorm spell and Alena with the iron claw is very strong at this stage in the game. NOTE: I'm sure everybody sees that there is a casino in Endor don't even bother with it it's useless you win coins to turn in for prizes not gold pieces so just avoid it until you get to Chapter 5. Also there is a whole section on casino gambling in the last section of the FAQ so look there if you wish too know more info. OK now that your levels are high and your equipment is up to par you can begin the tournament which takes place in the colloseium right behind the castle. Here are tips on defeating your opponents in the tournament NOTE: Everytime you win a battle the king will ask you if you want to use medical herbs. The way I look you always want to have max HP or close to max HP everytime you fight a new battle that way you won't have to use more medical herbs to get your HP up if you get in trouble. That is how I percieve things and I highly reccomend that strategy regarding herbs. FIRST OPPONENTS PARAMETERS NAME: HUN-70 HP'S This guy is very easy to beat 4-5 hits with the iron claw and he'll be toast. His attacks aren't that great either maybe 8-12 HP's he'll take off per swing. SECOND OPPONENTS PARAMETERS NAME RORIC-90 HP'S This guy is also pretty easy to defeat. He throws a boomerang at you that takes off about 10 HP's if it connects. Use a medical herbs only if your HP's get low. You should be able to defeat this guy in 4-5 hits also. He will give you a medical herb after you defeat him as well 3RD OPPONENTS PARAMETERS NAME: VIVIAN-90 HP'S She casts an icebolt spell along with a Healmore spell. She may be able to cast more spells but that's all she has casted against me. Just patiently fight her when she is close to defeat she will use the healmore spell but not to worry her magic points aren't that plentiful so if she keeps using Icebolt to fight you and Healmore to heal she'll eventually run out of MP. When she does you should be able to easily kill her as she can't fight at all without her magic. As always use medical herbs if necessary. She'll give you a medical herb after you defeat her as well. 4TH OPPONENTS PARAMETERS NAME: SAMPSON-90 HP'S What makes this opponent tough is that it will take around 8-9 hits to defeat him. He has a very good defense and he can take off around 15-20 HP's every hit. Don't be afraid to use medical herbs when fighting this guy if your HP gets low. He can't recover himself so just keep fighting until he gets defeated keep in mind that he has 90 HP's so you know how close you are to defeating him. 5TH OPPONENTS PARAMETER NAME: LINGUAR- 40-70 HP'S ??? Defeating this guy is luck. At the begining of the battle he splits into 4 Linguar's but 3 are mirages. You have to take an educated guess as to which one is the real Linguar. When I was fighting him most of the time he was Linguar C but in anybody else's game it could be different so don't use that as a guideline. He isn't that strong his attacks don't take off that much and his fireball attack isn't that great either they may take off at most 12 HP's per attack (By the way just in case your wondering he can only attack once per turn since there is only 1 real Linguar and 3 mirages). His defense isn't that great either if you get 3-4 hits on him he will be defeated. You just have to guess which Linguar is the real one and to attack him. As always if you have any medical herbs left use them if needed. If you defeated all 5 of those opponents you will be called to defeat a final opponent but he doesn't show up so you will have won the tournament. From here return to Santeem Castle and something strange will have happened. Alena and her companions than go to find out why this strange incident occured. CHAPTER 3- Taloon the Arms Merchant Playable Characters: Talloon- he's a merchant that wishes to own his very own shop some day and be the worlds greatest arm's merchant. He can't cast spells but he can use many weapons and armor a good all around fighter Non Playable Characters: Strom- a guardsman that you can hire in Endor for 5 days for 400 gold pieces Laurent- a trobadour or a wandering poet can cast some spells like heal fireball and sleep can be hired in Endor as well but a little more expensive then Stom I think it was 600 for 5 days or around that price range Just a few notables before you start. This chapter is in my opinion one of the best parts of any RPG put together the story throughout the chapter flows so well. But there are a few things a little different than the other parts of the game. Occasionly you may run into a merchant (instead of an enemy) that will attempt to sell you something in the overworld. It's pretty handy because as Talloon the merchant you'll pick up alot of weapons including expensive weapons right from the start of the game and you can sell it for quick cash. Another thing as soon as you get the iron safe don't worry about dying you can't lose any money if you die when you have the safe. Lastly you can easlily get the most powerful weapons very early in the chapter making builiding levels very easy. This will be explained in more detail down at the bottom. As Talloon you start off in the small town of Lakanaba. At first you have absolutely no money but fortunetly you have a job in the town. Go work there until you can afford Chain Mail at the armor store. This armor will last you for awhile and even longer if you get the Bronze Armor but that would take a long time and working at the shop is quite tedious. NOTE: When Talloon is working at the shop buy any items people sell to you especially if they are more powerful items like a boomerang or a Iron Spear that way if you then sell them to soembody else you'll get alot more money in your commision at the end of the day. Once you have the Chain Mail go buy a club for Talloon and a few medical herbs just in case something dumb happens. Once you get this you ask where do I go? Well if you talked around town you should know that their is an item called the Iron Safe in the cave North of Lakanaba. The safe bet would be too go there to start. The enemies at this stage are very easy especially if you have the Chain Mail so you should be able to fight them off with total ease. The enemies in the cave are also the same around Lakanaba so don't worry when you enter the cave you could be at level 1 and not have a problem. OK now your at the cave. Here is how to get the 2 important items that are found in the cave which are the Chain Sickle and the Iron Safe. First the Chain Sickle. Right from entering the cave go left into that stair case right in front of you. Now your in level 2 follow the path right until you reach this stone block. The game will ask you if you want to press the button say yes and the water behind the rock will send you down the tunnel into another staircase. From here go up and left into another staircase from here you'll see a treasure chest to the left and up search their and go get it. Now you have a much more powerful weapon the Chain Sickle. Now to get the Iron Safe from the place where you get the Chain Sickle you'll see a huge rock to the right of the treasure chest. Go up too it and it will ask you if you wish to push the button say yes and it will flush you down the tunnel towards another staircase. After you are flushed down the staircase go up and left towards another staircase. This will lead to yet another chamber. Go left right in front of a big rock and stone thing it won't do anything at first but walk down and the stone rock will roll down following you. Go straight down and take a right then go down then take your next left. The rock should of followed you all the way if you did this properly. After you have moved all the way to the left move up and the rock will fall in that big space so you can walk over it. Go over it and into the stair case. From here you can follow the path to the Iron Safe but there is something that always occurs if you don't do something and is very frusterating.. Q: I went and got the iron safe but everytime I try to leave there is a big wall blocking my exit how do I get out?? A: Well you can't get out What you have to do is move a small rock up found at the bottom part of the path into the cavern so the rock is one space south of the chest. Open up the chest and get the iron safe then when the big stone wall blocks your exit push the rock onto the empty chest and the wall will disseapear. Now you can go back to Lakanaba by retracing your footsteps to rest and save your game. If you talked to the inn keeper he reccomends you go south as there is a shop in Endor that you could buy a shop from. In your travels south you will find 2 towns Bonmalo Castle and a town called Foxville. Not only that but the bridge to Endor is broken. So your best bet would be to talk to everybody in the 2 towns. NOTE: The big thing about the next part of the game is talking to everybody as there is alot to do. In Foxville you will find out that an architect named DaGardi is there but he doesn't want to leave. Also the towns store is a rip off they sell you a broad sword for 10 gold pieces but you will only get a cypress stick if you make an attempt to purchase the Broad Sword. Anyway that's all you need to know about the town that it's suspicious. Head to Banamlo Castle next. In Banamalo Castle if you talk to everybody you will find out that somebody from Lakanaba is being held in jail and Prince Reed (Prince of the Banamalo Castle) wants to talk to you at night. First talk to the guy jail but make sure you bring a Wing of Wyvern with you buy it from the item shop!! You have to make sure the guards don't see you so try to avoid them buy hiding behind walls or sneaking behind there backs. Anyway when you talk to the guy who happens to be Tom's son back at Lakanaba he ask you to give you a Wing of Wyvern give it to him and he will fly back to Lakanaba. Go back to Lakanaba from here and talk to him he will give you his dog Tov which if you talked to everybody you will know that it scares away foxes. Hmm could Foxville be full of Foxes?? Go to foxville with the dog. Tov will go running off toward one of the foxes which is diguised as human talk to the disguised human and the town will disseapear. The fox then offers you a piece of Armor to let him go. Let him go and you will recieve Full Plate Armor even though you can't equip it it is very useful in the future. DaGardi will also come out of nowhere and tell you he is going back to Banamalo Castle. Go back to Banamalo Castle and you will discover that the bridge has been fixed to Endor if you talk to the King of Banamalo unfortunetly the king also wants to invade Endor. You should probaly talk to Prince Reed because of this. To talk to him he is behind the weapon shop at night so wait till night and go talk to him. NOTE: Your probaly wondering what to do with the full plate armor. Don't sell it too any of the normal shops in Banamalo. Instead sell it too an old man in the Castle of Banamalo behind a desk he will buy armor off of you for all sorts of prices. Sometimes outrageously high or sometimes be pretty low so keep talking to him to get the best price possible, if you don't like the price he offered he may offer a higher price. Do this with alot of the armor you get and you'll rake in the cash. The Prince will give you a note to send to the princess of Endor deliever it to her. Endor is south of Banamalo just cross the bridge and then travel south. Once you deliver that message the King of Endor will have you send his message to the King of Banamalo. Doing this resolves everything between the 2 castles. The king also promises you to give you a permit for a shop if you did this job so now you have permission to own a shop. There's only one problem the shop in Endor has a 35 grand price tag on it. So what do you do first?? Q: How do I get the shop it's going to take for ever to get the necessary money so is there an easier way?? A:Yes there is you have to go to the Cave of the Silver Stautette a wealthy man in Endor is willing to buy a statue that you find in that cave for 25 grand. In preperation to go to this cave you must get the best armor and weaponry available in Endor. Which means the Abacus of Virtue, Iron Apron, Iron Shield and Wooden Hat. It shouldn't be too hard to afford if you keep finding weapons from defeated enemies. More often than not you will find Broad Sword's which you can sell for a pretty good sum of money. It is also wise before tackling the cave to hire Strom and Laurent in Endor. To hire both of them for 5 days it costs around 1000 gold pieces. You'll find Strom near the House of Healing and Laurent is upstairs of the inn. Once you hire them take the bridge east of Endor and go straight north till you reach a cave with a swamp around it head in it that's the Cave of the Silver Stauette. NOTE: There is alot of treasure hidden in this cave but trust me don't get any of it except the Statuette. In Chapter 5 you'll come by this place again and the weapons will be alot more valuable then, than it is now. Q: OK so how do I get the Silver Statuette? A: Here's complete directions to get the Statue: From where you enter go up and to the right and take the boat you see and travel down the cavern with the boat till you see the pit. Reach that pit and fall in with the boat take that stair case you see right in front of you. Then go up and travel to the far left upper chamber and you'll see a switch when it asks you to press a button then say yes. Go back stair case to the right and go up the stairs in front of you. Now take the boat to the upper center cavern where there's this island with statues enter this and you'll get the Silver Statuette. Now you can sell the Silver Statuette for 25000 golds to the wealthy man in Endor. From here you can do a variety of things to scrape up the 10000 gold. You can either buy armor from Endor not weapons and sell them to the old man in Castle Banamalo for profit(which takes forever) or you can get weapons and armor from enemies that you find and sell them ( I suggest that way). Or you can do a combination of both it's entirely up too you. When you have the 35000 gold pieces go to the man with the closed down shop and he will sell it to you. Now there is only one thing left too do. If you haven't noticed already just east of Endor is a huge cave that a man wants to make a trade route but too finish the cave it will cost 60 thousand gold pieces. Well to get this large amount of gold pieces you can do a couple of things but this is what I reccomend.. If you go speak to the King he will request an order of 7 Broad Swords and 7 Half Plate Armors to be delievered to him the fee that you will get is amazingly 60000 golds. After you talk to him go out and fight enemies they will 1 out of 6 or 7 times give you a treasure. If it's a Broad Sword or Half Plate Armor bring it too the room in the castle that the king instructed you to drop off your goods. If you get something like a Chain Sickle or another good put it up for sale at your shop. Doing this you can build a profit from your store and if you get enough money you can buy all the Half Plate Armors from the Endor armory shop or the Broad Sword's from Banamalo Castle. You can of course just ignore the order and just put all weapons for sell that you get until you get 60000 golds but it's up too you either way takes quite some time. Once you get the 60000 golds go to the old man in the cave talk to him and exit the cave. Go back and talk too him again. Now go to the casino (it reopens as soon as you give the old man the 60 grand) and trade in all the money you have left for coins. Just to remind you coins will carry over to Chapter 5 but money doesn't. Play a poker game or whatever you like in the casino then go back to your shop. Your wife will tell you the old man had finished the cave. Now you may go to the cave and travel through to the east. On to Chapter 4... CHAPTER 4- The Sisters of Monbarbra Playable Character(s): Mara- (Dancer) She is a really good offensive spell caster but weak fighter and can get damaged easily Nara- (Fortuneteller) The younger sister can pullout Tarot Cards when you get them(hmm Ogre Battle stole from this one ) that has unknown effects on your opponents and your party. She can also cast some pretty good magic(mainly healing and defensive) and is a much better fighter than Mara. Can use some good armor and weaponry Non Playable Character(s): Orin-(Alcahmist) He's a strong dude can break magic key locks with his bare hands and his fighting skills are excellent. You must get him to move along in this chapter he's a valuable ally. As Mara and Nara the 2 sisters you start off in the town of Monbarbara with 100 gold in cash. Your weapons and armor aren't very good but I don't think you even need to upgrade them till later in the chapter. Feel free to upgrade your armor if you want in Monbarbara it's entirely up too you pretty much a judgement call. The reason I don't think getting armor isn't such a good idea is because all you need to do is get Orin and you'll fly through the chapter. Plus the weaponry isn't that good IMO in Monbarbara except for the Boomerang but in Kievs a Chain Sickle is available along with a feather hat those are much more suitable. If you get anything save up for those. NOTE: Mara's Dance Costume is worth 300 gold pieces when you sell so you'll get plenty of cash for the upgrade when the time arises First build your experience around Monbarabra until you get Mara and Nara around level 3. Talk to everybody in the town both at night and during the day Feel free to buy weapons or armor if need be. When you get to that level head directly north from Monbarbara to Kievs again talk to everybody night and day. NOTE: There is no House of Healing in Kievs so you can't save your game. Buy a few Wings of Wyvern to fly back to Monbarbara if need be to save your game. Now your at Kievs I suggest that you build your levels to 5 and then go into the cave to find Orin. The cave is west of Kievs and you have to cross the bridge that is near the town to get to this cave. Before you go be sure to stock up in medical herbs and anitdote herbs the enemies are pretty tough and the Demon Toadstools can posion you easily. Another thing don't be afraid to run away fighting will just drain Mara's MP with her blaze spell and Nara isn't powerful enough to fight that effectively either so if you feel you can run away do it. Level 5 is a good level to be at for the cave in case your wondering. Now here are the directions to get the 2 most important items in this chapter.. Q: OK where is this guy named Orin I can't find him HELP!!!!!! A: Well don't get so excited he's in the cave. Here are directions you start off in the enterance of the cave and head right you pretty much follow the path without goin in any chambers but I'll still tell you the path to follow anyway. After you head right go up then ignore the chamber in front of you and head left then up again ignore the chamber in front of you unless you want a Wing of Wyvern but if your trying to find Orin ignore it and go right then finally up to the chamber and go to that brown square looking thing it will send you down to Level 2. Go down then directly left until you see a chamber in fron tof you go into the chamber in front of you again stand on the brown thing and you'll go down to level 3. From here go follow the path to your right go down then left and he should be standing on an island close to a treasure chest which contains the Lamp of Darkness (a useful item changes day into night). Just talk to him and he will join your party as a NPC. Now get out of the cave as fast as you can and save your game!! NOTE: Keep in mind that if both Mara and Nara die you will go back to the house of healing and lose your gold so keep at least one of them alive. With Orin it shouldn't be too much of a problem because he is extremely strong for this stage of the game. Q: OK what's this other item that I need to get the Sphere of Silence where do I get that thing? A: The Sphere of Silence is used later on in the chapter but it can be found in the Cave West of Kievs where you got Orin. OK here's where you go when you enter the cave start out like your going to get Orin but when you reach the 2nd level instead of going left into the chamber go down then take a right then down and follow the path left then up into a chamber with a brown switch. Stand on it to go to another level. From here it's cake go down then right then up into the chamber and hit the switch to go to the next level. Now go up a tad then left then down then left and the chest should be sitting there. It contains the Sphere of Silence. Now that you have Orin you are able to break magic key door locks which are abundant in Keelon Castle which is Northeast of Kievs. Explore that and you'll discover that the King is in a hidden room and the counsel will run too the king if some loud sound occurs. Hmm well lets see here there's a Mining town North West of Keelon Castle that is called the Aktemto Mine. Maybe you could find some gun powder or something to scare the counsel. Before you do this though now is probaly the time to try to get some better weapons and armor(especially armor) for Mara and Nara Go to Haville which is pretty much north and a little bit east of Keelon slighty North east if you will. The best weaponry and armor for this chapter is available here. I reccomend upgrading Mara's armor first because she is a weak defensive character. Buy her the fur coat and the feather hat. If you have money left over buy a half plate armor and Morning Star for Nara if possible. Saving up is a good idea for these items they are very valuable and make Nara a force to be reckon with. If the Morning Star is out of range get the Venemous Dagger but make sure you get the half plate armor first it's far more valuable. You should be at around level 8 or 9 at this point preferably 9 so Mara can cast the outside spell. NOTE: Just some level rasing tips: Sometimes you will encounter a handful of slimes near Haville and Keeleon and they will start calling for more slimes into battle. Wait till the screen is full of slimes and it will change into a King Slime which you can get a ton experience and gold from. Another thing it is quite easy to rake in the gold in the low mountains near Haville and Keeleon I reccomend walking around there to build exprience. NOTE: Just to learn a little more about the story visit the shrine west of Haville (house of prophecy) After getting equipped properly it's time too go to the Aktemto mine town. The enemies are quite tough so having the outside spell is helpful incase of trouble Although I found them easy to run away I really wouldn't take any chances make sure your levels for Nara and Mara are high. The gun powder is in the cave here's directions to find it.. Q: OK where in Aktemto mine can I find the gun powder?? A: From the enterance to the mine go straight up and don't take any rights or lefts until you reach a place that goes left or right. Go right to go toward the Gunpowder left for the Tarot Cards that Nara can use(good item I suggest getting it). OK but to get the gunpowder go right and go down the ladder. In the next level go straight up and ignore the first left and rights take the second right you see when going up and you'll see the chest with the gunpowder in it. Now go back to Keelon after you have the best weponary and armor possible for both Nara and Mara. Once or if you have done that go to the room where the counsel is to the left of his room there is this little passage that you can hide in. In that passage way use the gunpowder jar and it will make a bang. The counsel will run out of his room and lead you to the Kings secret chamber. There you will find the man you've been looking for all this time Balzack.... He's a tough boss BOSS STRATEGY BOSS PARMENTERS NAME: BALZACK estimated HP 350-500 HP's Your level should be around 10-11 and a few medical herbs in your possesion helps to ensure victory. Here's what you should do in battle, first what you need to do is make sure you use the Sphere of Silence on Balzack that way he can't cast any spells. Than have Mara cast the Sap spell on him too lower his defense it should work on him. Orin will just fight away automatically and take about 40 HP off of him every blow. Mara should just parry, half the time her spells won't work on Balzack anyway while Nara should attack and heal anybody if need be. Balzack's attacks consist of a spitting fireball and a brutal attack that can take 25+ hp's off of your party so watch out for that. But really he shouldn't be tough to defeat if your levels are high enough. I estimate that his HP's are around 350-500 so you can probaly use that as a guideline. After defeating him a shocking event will occur. You should be able to get through this event without a walkthrough. Go back into the castle after escaping from it and you'll see something even more shocking!! From here you should have gotten a boarding pass during the event so go back to Haville and borad the ship. Talk to everybody then talk to the captain you will set sail to Endor.... CHAPTER 5- The Chosen Ones (UNDER CONSTRUCTION) In this chapter all the characters you have guided in the previous chapters will join with the hero and try to defeat the evil that's threatening the world. You will encounter other NPC's that I won't mention until you come across them in the game. There are quite a few of them.. There is also a change in the way battles are fought. Instead of putting in a command for every character except the NPC's of course this time you put a specific command for the Hero and assign a tactics command to the rest of the group. I'll go more into detail when the time arises.. Playable Character-Hero: This is the character that you chose the name for at the beggining of the game. He or she is a great fighter and can use alot of powerful spells the best character in the game. You start off in a small town nesseled in the mountains as the hero. To get things going talk to everybody than deliver the lunch to your dad and go back too your mom and talk to her. The next thing that happens I can't give away it has too much to do with the story. Now to start first go to the Woods man shack just south of the town you were once in. Here search the jars and you will get Leather armor, 50 gold pieces and a medical herb. Equip the leather armor immediately and go south too Branca Castle. There's not much you can do at Branca besides save your game because you don't have that much money at all. So talk to everybody and build your hero's level around Branca to 3-4. Once you have achieved that go SouthWest from Branca to a huge cave. This happens to be the same cave Taloon helped build with the money. This leads you to Endor where you can find your first 2 companions which are Mara and Nara. All you need to do is talk to Nara who is right near the House of Healings giving out people's fortunes. Let her take your fortune and she'll join your party. From here go to the Endor Casino and find Mara after talking to her she'll join the party as well. I reccomend putting the characters in this order to start Nara, Mara and then the hero to prevent the hero dying easy. NOTE: Now that your in Chapter 5 the battle menu's have changed greatly. Now you input a specific command for the hero but for everybody else they follow a tactic command. Some examples of these tactics are Normal, Offensive, Defensive, and other that are pretty self explanatory from their name. According to the instruction manual these tactics improve over time. What they're trying to say is that supposedly the more you use a specific tactic the more it improves. To start off just use Normal practically all the time when building experience but when your in trouble use the Offensive tactic if you want to try to finish everybody off with the characters best attacks. Since the hero is weak go north of the huge cave (northeast of Endor) to the Cave of the Silver Statuette. (2 things you can do here build the hero's level up greatly and get him some good weapons and armor) If you DIDN'T TAKE THE TREASURES IN CHAPTER 3 than you should be all set These treasures are extremely valuable as you can make the hero very powerful right away. You shouldn't need directions for the cave it's very easy especially since you've already explored it. Here are the things you should find Morning Star, Half Plate Armor, Iron Spear, Broad Sword, Medical Herb and 760 gold pieces. You can equip the hero with the Half Plate Armor and Broad Sword but sell the Morning Star and Iron Spear unless Nara isn't already equipped with the Morning Star. From the money you make on those weapons you can get some improved armor for any of the 3 characters. You can buy very good armory at Endor so give the armor shops a look. Q: OK now where do I go after I've gotten Mara and Nara? A: Well after getting them you should go back to Branca and head east from there. You'll see a shrine talk to everybody and you'll discover that Hector the inn's owner has a wagon necessary to cross the desert. ----------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------- Sorry to cut this FAQ short but the rest of Chapter 5 will be outlined in a future version.
