Famicom Box

Most serious collectors have seen, or at least heard of, the M82 display units in many electronics stores back in the day. However, few people have ever heard of the Famicom Box, a Japanese Nintendo system which was commonly used hotels and game rooms back in the day. Although the Famicom Box was used in parts of Asia, why does it use normal-sized Nintendo cartridges? A plausible explanation is that this unit was made back when Nintendo was experimenting with their line of "Asian Version" Nintendo games.

The Famicom Box uses standard Nintendo joy pads and light guns. A coin box can be connected to the Famicom Box, requiring coins to play the unit. A timer can also be set on the Famicom Box, once again we have to remember that this thing was used in Asian hotels.

Eleven games were made for the Famicom Box. These games will run on a normal Nintendo unit, however, the normal Nintendo games will not run on the Famicom Box. The games known to exist are as follows: Super Mario Bros, Duck Hunt, Golf, Baseball, Pro Wrestling, F1 Race, Go, Shogi, Mahjong, Ghosts n' Goblins, and Adventure Island.

A second Famicom Box system was also designed, though this one is for the Super Nintendo. For more information on this, click Here
