Raid 2020 was one of Color Dreams' earlier game releases. Originally called, Drug Czar, Color Dreams had the name changed because they believed including the word ‘Drug’ may give the game an unwanted image and reduce sales. The following is from the game:
"A.D. 2020. A plague of narcotics, transcending the bounds of race, economy, and time have put a stranglehold on America. You must destroy Pitbull, the drug kingpin who has become the overlord of this sinister empire.
You, Shadow, are
The last hope…"
The game was developed over a six month time period, mostly by Dan Burke and Frank Waung. Frank Waung had taken up a programmer job at Color Dreams from a newspaper ad. He met Leo Gilreath in an arcade, who introduced him to Dan Burke. The three hit it off and Raid 2020 was the game they made for Color Dreams.
Little known fact: Leo Gilreath once said that Raid 2020 was inspired by the popular arcade game Narc.
